I am a Senior Guardian (Identified) within the Statewide Legal Matters team at the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), where I have worked for the past four years across complex legal, healthcare, and service provision matters for adults with impaired decision-making capacity. My role involves making substitute decisions that are legally sound, while ensuring the rights, views, and preferences of the individual remain central to all outcomes.I have extensive experience working across multidisciplinary systems, including courts, hospitals, corrective services, and the NDIS, often in high-risk and sensitive environments. I am particularly passionate about advocacy for individuals who are unable to advocate for themselves, ensuring they receive appropriate support, protection, and access to services.Prior to joining OPG, I worked for seven years in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), specialising in systems development and the implementation of safe work practices, particularly within remote and regional communities. This experience has strengthened my ability to assess risk, navigate complex environments, and implement practical, person-centred solutions. As a Torres Strait Islander woman from Darnley Island, I bring a strong commitment to culturally safe practice. I prioritise building trust and connection with First Nations clients by adapting communication, respecting cultural protocols, and ensuring that services are delivered in a way that is both respectful and responsive to community needs. I actively contribute to initiatives that strengthen cultural capability within OPG, including participation in the First Nations Yarning Circle and broader workforce development.I am driven by a commitment to human rights, ethical decision-making, and improving outcomes for vulnerable people through strong advocacy, collaboration, and culturally informed practice.
