Michelle Wilcox

Michelle is a tenacious woman who has developed a passion to break down the social and societal barriers that people with disability often face when accessing mainstream health care services in Victoria. In 2007, she graduated with a Diploma in Community Welfare Work followed by a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in 2019. Michelle has had extensive experience working on various community development projects designed to enhance and empower community practice for people with disability. She has worked as a vocational trainer at Inclusion Melbourne educating newly appointed staff on making inclusion and participation possible for people with disability. Michelle has also worked as a community development worker for VALID Advocacy Service on advocating for human rights of people with disability to access funding from the National Disability Insurance Scheme to participate in and contribute to mainstream society. She is currently employed as the Healthy Discussions Project Coordinator at the Victorian Office of the Public Advocate. The project aims to improve communication pathways between healthcare practitioners and people with disability to be supported to make decisions about their own health.
